Dog Figurines and Statues
Dog figurines and statues come in all shapes, sizes, breeds and materials for every collector and dog lover. Smaller figurines can be cast metal (whether precious or base); carved from almost any stone (marble, soapstone any of the more colorful semi-precious type) or wood; cast in bisque or porcelain; or assembled from any combination of these. They can be functional, (as bookends, doorstops or lamps), or purely decorative.
Larger dog figurines used to be limited to plaster, cement, porcelain or wood. Plaster and porcelain were too fragile for the outdoors, which left cement and wood. It was difficult to find lifelike wood carvings, and if you could, they were quite expensive. Although cement was more affordable, as the weight of these objects got larger, it became an issue in itself. In order to keep the structure in a self supporting status, the poses were often unrealistic, and detail was often minimized. Breed selection was also limited for the same reasons.
With the advent of polyresin, strong, relatively lightweight and extremely lifelike statuary is not only possible, but also affordable. Dog figurines are now manufactured in polyresin ranging in size from under one inch to a lifesized standing St. Bernard or Irish Wolfhound. Polyresin will allow the most minute detail on be introduced, from the smallest wrinkle or wart to your bulldog figurine, to hair texture and curl to your Borzoi. Add expert artists to color these creations, and you have creations that need a second (or third) look to determine they are not breathing.
Although it is easier to find the more popular dog breeds, the internet makes it possible to find them all.
Dog figurines and statues make wonderful gifts for friends and family, you only need to know what breeds they fancy. The most common poses are standing, sitting, sphinx-like ‘down' position, and curled up asleep. In the case of bulldog figurines, you are more likely to find them sitting with their hind legs sprawled rather than in the classic sitting position (as this is how they do it in real life).
Some dog figurine lines have accessories for their pups- such as houses, beds, bowls and toys to make a complete little scene instead of having the dog alone. You have choices in adult or pup, with the possibility of having different poses interacting as a group.
There are even dog figurines and statues that have their own line of costumes for different occasions and holidays, or a series of signs they can hold for these dates. They can be small enough to fit on your desk or large enough to draw attention from the street as they reside by your front entrance or in your yard.
If you have a need for a custom colorizing to memorialize a favorite friend, that too is available for the true aficionado. You need only find the correct breed and pose, then supply photographs that show both sides to achieve your goal. No matter what you are looking for in dog figurines and statues, it is possible to find a lifelike representation, in whatever size works best for you.
